The nature of the environmental industry;

The demands and requirements of equipment performance results in:

the product shapes the character of its masters.

The
industry really started to take-off and develop in the 1960′s as a
result of the space program. What was being sold were primarily custom
made environmental test equipment, and every unit had it own particular
personality or problems. The basic engineering was done on a drafting
board, the final engineered product was produced on the production
floor, in the their final test dept, with many setbacks and problems. As
late as 1982 the industry was still taking up to a year over its given
ship date to get (custom work) equipment operating and shipped to the
customer. There was always a push to ship equipment prior to having all
the -bugs-out to get that final payment.

It was then the responsibility of the field service dept. to satisfy the customer needs, and equipment requirements.

No- news-is-good- news!!!!

What
this then did was produce an attitude of getting the customer off their
backs. Get a body-over[service representive] over there to the
customer’s shop so they will shut up!!!

So this pressure encouraged the “I Lied For YOU” Philosophy of management.

Good Old Bob’s business philosophy as told:

consider it part of your job to do the final sell-off of this

“Your job is to convince the customer

So, of course you’re going to have to lie.

The
next step in this process you are supposed to tell the customer
anything they want to hear(always

agree with them, Yes I understand was
popular.).

This means ship dates–promise anything because of the
long lead time to produce the test equipment the customer will be locked
in six months down the road; even if there is a drop-dead-clause
(refuse to accept the order upon delivery) because they won’t have the
time to reorder from anyone else.

Performance–promise just about
anything because it will perform at that specification sometimes “the
manufacture just doesn’t know when or how often.”

the customer wants to verify the test results of the equipment prior to
shipment that’s “ok” EXCEPT how about if we just send you a copy of the

“Someone who you get drunk so you can then find out how much money they really have got to spend”.

Vatican City, May 6, 2014 / 07:57 am (CNA/EWTN News).- In his daily Mass Pope Francis recounted the death of St. Stephan, the Church’s first martyr, explaining that being a Christian means giving witness rather than remaining sterile within ourselves.

“You cannot understand a Christian without witness,” the Pope stated in his May 6 daily homily, adding that “we are not a university of religion, a ‘religion’ of ideas,” or “of pure theology, beautiful things, of commandments.”

“No, we are a people who follow Jesus Christ and bear witness – who want to bear witness to Jesus Christ – and sometimes this witness leads to laying down our lives.”

Addressing those gathered in the Vatican’s Saint Martha guesthouse, the Roman Pontiff reflected on how St. Stephan, who’s stoning was recounted in the day’s first reading taken from the Acts of the Apostles, was killed in a manner similar to that of Jesus.

Like Jesus, Stephan also encountered “the jealousy of the leaders who were trying” to get rid of him, and had “false witnesses” and a “rushed judgment” when he warned the people that they were resisting the Holy Spirit, the pontiff noted.

“These people were uneasy, were not at peace in their hearts” but rather had “hatred” in their heart, he observed, explaining that “This hatred was sown in their hearts by the devil…this is the devil’s hatred of Christ.”

Highlighting how the “struggle between God and the devil” is clearly shown in the act of martyrdom, Pope Francis said that “to be persecuted, to be a martyr, to gives ones’ life for Jesus is one of the Beatitudes,” which is why “the devil cannot stand seeing the sanctity of a church or the sanctity of a person, without trying to do something.”

“Martyrdom is the translation of a Greek word that also means witness” he continued, “so we can say that for a Christian the path follows in the footsteps of this witness, Christ’s footsteps, to bear witness to Him and, many times, this witness ends up in laying down one’s life.”

“You cannot understand a Christian without witness. We are not a ‘religion’ of ideas, of pure theology, beautiful things…we are a people who follow Jesus Christ and bear witness.”

Recalling how “a severe persecution began against the Church in Jerusalem” after Stephan’s death, the pontiff observed that these people “felt strong and the devil provoked them to do this,” so the “Christians scattered to the regions of Judea and Samaria.”

Because of this persecution the people of God went “far and wide,” proclaiming the Gospel and giving testimony to Jesus wherever they went, the Bishop of Rome went on to say, noting that this is how the “mission of the Church” began.

“So many converted on hearing these people” he reflected, quoting one of the Fathers of the Church who said that “The blood of martyrs is the seed of Christians,” and that with “their witness, they preach the faith.”

“Witness, be it in everyday life, in difficulties, and even in persecution and death, always bears fruit. The Church is fruitful and a mother when she witnesses to Jesus Christ.”

However “when the Church closes in on itself, when it thinks of itself as a – so to speak – ‘school of religion,’ with so many great ideas, with many beautiful temples, with many fine museums, with many beautiful things, but does not give witness” the pontiff explained, “it becomes sterile.”

“The Christian is the same. The Christian who does not bear witness, is sterile, without giving the life he has received from Jesus Christ.”

Continuing, Pope Francis observed how “Stephen was filled with the Holy Spirit” and that “we cannot bear witness without the presence of the Holy Spirit in us.”

“In difficult times, where we have to choose the right path, where we have to say ‘no’ to a lot of things that maybe try to seduce us, there is prayer to the Holy Spirit” he stated, “and He makes us strong enough to take this path of witness.”

Bringing his reflections to a close, the Pope encouraged those present to think “about these two icons – Stephen, who dies, and the people, the Christians, fleeing, scattering far and wide because of the violent persecution.”

Caller:  My question has to do with the passing of punishment or sin from generation to generation, from the father to the son to the grandkids to the great-grandkids.

 

Pastor Doug:  Ah, that’s a good question.  Why don’t we start by going down to the Ten Commandments, that’s probably the most famous example, where He talks about ‘unto the third and fourth generation’  is that what you’re wondering?

Pastor Doug:  Okay.  Let’s see here.  Go to the second commandment, verse 4.  Exodus 20:4.  ‘Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image or any likeness of anything that is in the heaven above or the earth beneath or the water under the earth.  5 thou shalt not bow down thyself to them nor serve them.  For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting here it is visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generations of them who hate Me.  6 and showing mercy unto thousands of them that love Me and keep My commandments.’  I think I’m glad it’s says third and fourth generation of them that hate me, thousands of them that love me, so the love outweighs the hate.  Does it sound like God is saying I’m going to place a curse on people, and their children and great-grandchildren?  That’s not what He’s talking about.  What the Lord is saying here is that there’s a principle in life that parents reproduce their behavior in their children and you can usually trace it three or four generations. 

 

Caller:  Okay.  I was wondering, because I take it, and I’m glad you corrected me, I take it as, you know, if I sin, that sin will be passed down to my children and my great-grandchildren, and so forth and so forth.

 

Pastor Doug:  No, God does not arbitrarily impose your sin on your children, because the Bible says very carefully, God says ‘The son is not accountable for the sins of the father, and the father is not accountable for the sins of the son.  The righteousness of the righteous will be upon them, the wickedness of the wicked will be upon them.’  Another time, the Lord says, ‘Though Noah, Daniel, and Job were in the land, they will deliver neither son nor daughter by their righteousness, they will deliver their own souls.’  So God establishes a very clear principle in the Bible that he does not reward or punish offspring because of what the parents do.  What He’s saying in these passages is that by the example of the parents there’s a strong possibility that the children are going to follow that example.  A good instance of this in the Bible is when the kingdom of Israel split, and Jeroboam and the children of Israel in the north stopped worshipping at the Temple of God.  By his example, his children started to pray to idols, and then his grandchildren started to pray to idols, and several of those kings, you watch, they lasted four generations and then they were destroyed, three generations and then they were destroyed.  And it was over and over again three or four generations and then they wiped out.  And the children repeated the mistakes of the parentsnot because God cursed them but because it’s so important for us as parents to be good examples.  That’s what God is impressing.
